CHANG-SHI LU Obituary
age 78, passed away September 23, 2017. Beloved husband of Evelyn (nee Lien). Loving grandfather of Caroline and Juliet.Devoted father of Cyrus. Dear brother of Chang-Shin, Chang-Li and Chang-Shun Lu. Uncle to many and dear friend to all that knew him. Born in China in 1939, his family moved to Taiwan where he attended National Taiwan University. In the year between his undergraduate education and his Master's degree, he spent a year teaching mathematics where he would meet Evelyn. A pursuit to continue education moved Chang-shi to the United States; first to Florida and then to University of Virginia where he obtained his PhD in Fluid Dynamics and was joined by Evelyn. Chang-shi and Evelyn were married in Virginia and recently celebrated 49 years of a loving and supportive partnership. They settled in Strongsville, Ohio. Chang-shi was employed by Parker Hannifin for nearly 30 years and was granted a patent for transferring of fuel under negative gravity conditions that was applied to the Harrier Airplane. Chang-shi was a family man and was devoted to his son's (Cyrus) activities, whether it was boy scouts, golf, advice, or any and all necessary encouragement. As an immigrant, his close ties to the Cleveland Chinese community developed into a surrogate family that still remains strong to this day. He loved golf and more recently developed a passion for woodworking. In recent years he could often be found at the Strongsville Senior Center Woodshop making gifts to his friends for special occasions. Most of all he loved his family and friends. In his retirement, he found joy supporting his granddaughter Caroline in her activities or celebrating Juliet's milestones. He was Caroline's biggest cheerleader at her swim meets. He was a constant student, who continued to learn new skills with tenacity throughout his life. He was a modest man with an engaging and positive personality. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. He will be forever missed by his family and friends. VISITATION 1-4 PM MONDAY, OCTOBER 2, at JARDINE FUNERAL HOME, 15822 PEARL ROAD, Strongsville. where a Memorial Service will follow at 4 PM. The family suggests memorial contributions to Strongsville Senior Center (Woodshop). www.jardinefh.com

The OCA Greater Cleveland Chapter and the Chinese Community regret to announce the passing of one of it's community leaders, Dr. Chang-Shi Lu. Dr. Lu served as the Chairman of the Chinese Association of Greater Cleveland for two terms before it merged with OCA Northeast Ohio to form the Organization of Chinese Americans of Greater Cleveland (OCAGC) in 1991.
-------

The Late Dr. Chang Shi LU was former Chairman of the Board of Chinese Association of Greater Cleveland (CAGC), an organization targeted on social events for the Greater Cleveland Chinese Community. At that time, the CAGC Board, headed by Dr. Alex Mark, decided to nominate an individual from the west side as his successor. For reasons unknown, members of the organization were mainly from the east side. Hopefully, more west-siders would join the organization by having a west side leader. Dr. LU’s term as Chairman of CAGC is from 1986 to 1990. During the four years, there were a lot of activities in the Cleveland Chinese Community, namely: the erection of Chinese Cultural Garden with Confucius Statute standing in the middle of a stone marble platform at MLK Blvd. north of Chester Avenue; Planning of a Chinatown in the Cleveland Downtown Area; Invitation of Taiwan Economic and Cultural Representatives and also the Embassy of People’s Republic of China to come to Cleveland for many occasions; founding of a Cantonese Chinese School in downtown Cleveland; With the leadership of Dr. LU, CAGC was heavily involved in all these activities.
