A wonderful performance by Angelin Chang

I was very happy to see Angelin Chang, a Grammy award-winning classical pianist and professor of music at Cleveland State University, performing with the Cleveland Philharmonic Orchestra last Sunday at the Metropolitan campus auditorium of Cuyahoga Community College. She played an amazing Liszt Concerto no. 1 in E-flat Major that consists of four movements and lasts approximately 20 minutes. It was fantastic and truly enjoyable. With her passion and perfect piano skill, Angelin gave the audience an amazing, bristling performance with the youthful energy of the virtuoso-composer Liszt, who wrote it to perform at his own concerts in the middle of the nineteen century. Everyone in the auditorium loved her performance and gave her a long standing ovation.
I am an eighth grader at the Solon Middle School and have played piano since I was the age of five at the Cleveland Institute of Music. While practicing takes time, it is a lot of fun to play piano, especially at the moments when you win the competitions or have performances. I won first prize in the Ohio Music Teachers Association District Buckeye Piano Competition for three times. In the May of 2011, I made my debut as soloist with an orchestra performing Haydn’s Piano Concerto in D Major with the Lakeland Civic Orchestra as a result of winning the Lakeland Civic Orchestra’s Young Artist Competition. In 2012, I was selected to participate in the Gina Bachauer International Junior Piano Competition held in Salt Lake City in June of 2012. I also won the state Music Teachers National Association Competition in October of 2012. As a winner of the 2013 Jean L. Petitt Memorial Music Scholarship Competition, I was invited to perform Tchaikovsky's First Piano Concerto with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra on March 15th, 2014 at Severance Hall. It was a wonderful and amazing experience. It was also my biggest performance thus far. When I saw that the audience gave me a long standing ovation, I felt that music is so powerful and very communicable. It really inspired me to become a concert pianist like Angelin.
