中西文化藝術交融 演繹千古愛情絶唱
克城上演小提琴協奏曲《梁山伯與祝英台》
2013年3月23日 歡迎廣大華報讀者參加《梁祝音樂會》

We would like to invite all music lovers to join us on Saturday, March 23, 2013 for this special "East Meets West" concert featuring the music of China -- both traditional and symphonic -- played by Chinese and non-Chinese musicians from Cleveland, Ohio. The concert starts at 8 p.m. and takes place at the historic Hermit Club, located at 1620 Dodge Court in Cleveland, Ohio (just behind Playhouse Square).
The highlight of the evening will be the first-ever Cleveland performance of the famous "Butterfly Lovers" Violin Concerto, performed by solo violinist Steven Greenman and the Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra, conducted by Stephen A. Eva. This work, which was composed in 1959 by the Chinese composers Chen Gang and He Zhanhao, tells the timeless story from Chinese folklore of the tragic romance between two lovers, Liang Shanbo and Zhu Yingtai, and is regarded as the Chinese equivalent of "Romeo and Juliet."
Other orchestral works to be performed include the tone poem "Dance of the Yao People" and the festive overture "The Flowers are Beautiful, The Moon is Round." As with the concerto, these pieces will also be Cleveland premieres.
The Cleveland Chinese Music Ensemble, featuring vocalist Xue "Snow" Yu of Qingdao, Shandong, China, will open the concert with a set of beautiful Chinese melodies played on traditional musical instruments including dizi and xiao (bamboo flutes), sheng (mouth organ), pipa (pear-shaped lute), guzheng (zither), and percussion.
It is our hope that this concert will be the first of many more similar performances in the future, perhaps becoming an annual event showcasing the best of Chinese music.
The organizers of this concert gratefully acknowledge Margaret Wong, Alex Machaskee, Anthony Yen, the Cleveland State University Confucius Institute, and the Cleveland Contemporary Chinese Culture Association of Solon, Ohio for their assistance in making this concert a success, and we especially value the ongoing support of the "Erie Chinese Journal" newspaper for its tireless efforts to recognize and promote Chinese cultural events in the state of Ohio..
Tickets are $35 and available at http://chagrinfallsstudioorchestra.org/ or by calling the Hermit Club at (216) 621-2325. Only 90 tickets will be sold. We hope to see you there!
