CLEVELAND PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES LUNAR NEW YEAR WITH FUN-FILLED
ACTIVITIES & PERFORMANCES FOR FAMILIES

CLEVELAND, OH — Cleveland Public Library (CPL) will host their annual Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday, March 12 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. in the Louis Stokes Wing Auditorium at the Main Library downtown at East Sixth and Superior.
“Cleveland is fortunate to have so many diverse cultures that we can all learn from and share. We at CPL do our part to celebrate these diverse cultures, and look forward to this event every year as part of this effort. Not only is it a great way to experience and explore the traditions of Cleveland’s Asian community, but it’s an intergenerational, family friendly, and educational event that everyone can enjoy,” said Felton Thomas, Director of Cleveland Public Library.
Yin Tang, a dance choreographer and performance coordinator for the Cleveland Contemporary Chinese Culture Association (CCCA), will be the guest speaker for the event. In addition to her expertise in dance, Ms. Tang serves on the Executive Committee for the Cleveland Asian Festival.
The fun-filled afternoon also will include performances by George Kwan Family Lion Dance Team, Chinese music ensemble, Japanese drum team, Westlake Chinese Culture Dance, and Chinese Academy of Cleveland. Young children can enjoy crafts and story time in the Youth Services Department from 12:00-1:00 p.m. Light refreshments will be provided.
CPL will also promote cultural awareness through a collaboration with Chinese Professionals Entrepreneurs Association and the Great Wall Enrichment Center to offer FREE Chinese lessons for children in grades 1-6. Lessons will be held March 5-May 7 at the Main Library. Children will learn the essential Chinese pronunciation system, simple dialogues, and some basic Chinese characters. While the lessons are free, space is limited, and registration is required. To register, please call 216-623-2834.
